Ryan Feeley is the driving force behind Mersey Mindset, a community initiative born from his passion for football, fitness, and men’s wellbeing. A regular player several nights a week, Ryan has experienced first-hand how sport can positively impact both mental and physical health — helping to build friendships, boost confidence, and create a sense of belonging within the Merseyside football community.
Ryan recognised that many men face deeper challenges beyond weight loss, particularly around mental health.
This realisation inspired him to create Mersey Mindset — a safe, inclusive support network for men across Merseyside.
His mission is simple: to make a positive difference in men’s lives. If just one man feels better, finds support, or opens up because of Mersey Mindset, Ryan knows it’s all been worthwhile.
Mike Feeley brings over 20 years of management experience to Mersey Mindset, with a strong background in launching businesses, leading large teams, and specialising in health & safety and building compliance. Known for his attention to detail and strategic leadership, Mike plays a key role in ensuring Mersey Mindset operates with integrity, transparency, and impact.
Mike’s passion for football and men’s mental health stems from personal experience. After sustaining a severe injury during a charity football match, he remained determined to stay involved in the game and use his journey to support others. He now dedicates his time to helping men across Merseyside access the support they need — whether it's mental wellbeing, physical health, or simply someone to talk to.
At Mersey Mindset, Mike oversees governance, compliance, and sponsorships, while also forging valuable partnerships with other organisations.
Merseyside Mindset has giving me the opportunity to continue playing football well into my mid-40s, while also helping me become fitter and healthier along the way.
I've also met some of the nicest people through Mersey Mindset — individuals I’d be proud to call friends for life.
Playing football again since joining Mersey Mindset has done wonders for my mental health. The sessions are fun, competitive in the right way, and bring back that sense of team spirit and competitiveness I’d been missing. It’s not just about fitness — it’s about feeling connected, clearing your head, and having a reason to look forward to the week. Being part of a group that understands the value of the game for your mind as well as your body has been a game-changer for me.
I joined Mersey Mindset as I was looking to play football and get out of the house, but didn't know where to start.
Since joining, I have found that Mersey Mindset is a welcoming community that brings men together over common interests and helps tackle loneliness, thereby improving mental health.
This is the reason for stepping up into the role as director. I want to help build Mersey Mindset and give other men the same opportunity that I had in a welcoming and safe environment.
Joe Feeley manages the Mersey Mindset 11-a-side Sunday team and leads the Tuesday evening training sessions. With a lifelong passion for football and experience playing at various competitive levels, Joe brings both knowledge and heart to the pitch.
After sustaining multiple injuries over the years, Joe made the decision to step back from playing — but his love for the game never left. Now, he channels that passion into coaching and supporting others, creating a positive, inclusive space where men can come together, improve their fitness, and support one another.
Joe values the camaraderie that football brings and is always available for a chat, offering encouragement both on and off the field. His commitment to the Mersey Mindset ethos ensures that every session is not just about football, but about connection, confidence, and community.
